PRODUCTS
A Wet Drum Magnet is a type of magnetic separator that functions with the aid of a rotating drum to separate ferrous metals from non-metallic materials in wet bulk processes. It’s commonly used in industries like:
|
Food processing • Recycling |
Quarrying • Mining |
• Chemical processing |
The BJ Magnets’ Wet Drum Magnetic Separator is designed for the continuous extraction of ferrous metal contamination from wet bulk material – Ideal for free-flowing with a variety of products such as:
- Iron ore: Upgrading iron ore, removing impurities, and improving product quality.
- Coal: Removing tramp iron and pyrite from coal, improving coal quality and reducing ash content.
- Minerals: Separating ferrous minerals like magnetite, hematite, and pyrrhotite from non-ferrous minerals.
- Recycling: Recovering ferrous metals from waste materials like scrap metal, slag, and ash.
- Food processing: Removing metal contaminants from food products like grains, sugar, and spices.
- Chemical processing: Separating ferrous materials from chemical slurries and solutions.
- Wastewater treatment: Removing ferrous metals and other contaminants from wastewater.
- Slag processing: Recovering ferrous metals from slag and improving slag quality.
- Ceramics and glass: Removing metal contaminants from ceramic and glass materials.
- Plastics and rubber: Recovering ferrous metals from plastic and rubber waste.
BJ Magnets’ Wet Drum Magnets are versatile and can be used in various industries to improve product quality, reduce impurities, and recover valuable materials.
The BJ Magnets’ Dry Drum Magnetic Separator has an outer shell which rotates, in such a way that, clean product is allowed to free fall from the Drum while powerful magnets hold ferrous contamination to the point where the magnetism ends, then discharges the metal under the Drum, thus ensuring a total separation. It works in a such a way that:
- Material is fed onto the drum’s surface.
- The drum rotates, and the magnetic field attracts ferrous metals, lifting them away from non-metallic materials.
- The attracted metals are then discharged into a separate collection area.
- Non-metallic materials continue on, unaffected by the magnetic field.
Eventually material is fed uniformly into to the surface of the Drum from a conveyor, vibratory feeder or chute work, thus ensuring continuous ferrous contamination removal.
We, BJ Magnets, design and manufacture various sizes of drums with engineered magnetic strengths, and configurations to suit different applications; which come in Standard Ferrite Version – for general tramp iron contamination such as nuts and bolts as well as in High Intensity Version – for fine paramagnetic materials where a greater level of protection is required.
Some common types include:
– Single-drum magnets
– Double-drum magnets
– Permanent magnetic drums.
– Rare-earth magnetic drum

The BJ Magnets’ Wet Drum Magnet consists of a stationary, shaft-mounted magnetic circuit completely enclosed by a rotating drum. The magnetic circuit is typically comprised of several magnetic poles that span an arc of 120 degrees. When material is introduced to the revolving Drum shell, concurrent at the 12 o’clock position, the non-magnetic material discharges in a natural trajectory. The magnetic material is attracted to the Drum shell by the magnetic circuit and is rotated out of the non-magnetic particle stream, in which case the magnetic material is discharged from the Drum shell when it is rotated out of the magnetic field.
BJ Magnets’ Magnetic Wet Drum Separator, available with or without housing, is used for applications where a high degree of fine or slurry product purity is required. Such applications are also for separation processes of materials like fine grained red mine (hematite) limonite, manganese ore, ilmenite and other kind of weakly magnetic minerals like quartz, feldspar, nepheline ore and kaolin, in order to remove impurity iron.
Our types of Wet Drum Separators are effective in removing very fine ferrous particles and strongly paramagnetic particles. Other than iron ores, they are good for recovering magnetic or ferrosilicon in dense media plants as well as for decreasing utility requirements and delivering large savings to operational expenditure.
BJ Magnets’ Wet Drum Magnets combine the attributes of a high-strength permanent magnetic field and a self-cleaning feature. They thence can be considered for the application of product productivity increase, especially where product purity is highly essential. This separator is effective in treating process streams that contains a high percentage of magnetics and can produce a “clean” magnetic or non-magnetic product.
Built in several sizes of up to 4.3 m diameter by 6 m long, with capacities of up to 450 t h−1 and treating feed particles of up to 30 cm in diameter; the separation is accomplished by the continuous removal of the sink product through the action of lifters fixed to the inside of the rotating drum. The lifters empty into the sinks launder when they pass the horizontal position, and the float product overflows a weir at the opposite end of the drum from the feed chute. Longitudinal partitions separate the float surface from the sink-discharge action of the revolving lifters for effective and effecient separation.

Permanent magnetic drum separator
Which consists mainly of a permanent magnet system, a rotating drum, a separating chute, a feed tank, and a flushing pipe – has magnetite separation with the magnetic field intensity on the surface of the drum of between 0.1 and 0.4 T. However, for other applications, the intensity may reach as high as 0.8 T. Designs are bespoke done according to the relevant client’s specifications needs.

When the iron ore slurry passes through the separating chute, magnetite particles from the slurry are attracted by magnetic forces to the surface of the drum, while gangue minerals are dragged down by gravity and water flow. These magnetic particles are then brought by the rotating drum to the top where the magnetic field is weak and close to zero, and they are then flushed away from the drum as an iron concentrate.
There are several types of permanent magnetic drum separators used for roughing and cleaning and for fine and coarse particles. They may look different, but they all work on the same principle.
BJ Magnets is ISO 9001:2015 certified company by SABS for Quality Management System.
