An Electro-Overbelt Magnet, also known as an Overband Magnet or Crossbelt Magnet, is a type of industrial magnetic separator used to remove ferrous metals from conveyor belts. It’s commonly used in recycling, mining, and quarrying operations. BJ Magnets’ Overbelt Electro-Magnetic Separators are your ideal equipment for the separation of ferrous contaminated material as they effectively:
  • Remove metal contaminants from materials like coal, sand, gravel, and waste.
  • Protect downstream equipment from damage caused by metal debris; and
  • Recover valuable metals for recycling.
They can be suspended on gantries above a conveyor belt installation to extract ferrous content from conveyed loads before they reach further downstream processing. An automatic belt-driven self-cleaning mechanism then dumps the trappings into collection bins located on the side of the conveyor.

PRODUCTS

BJ Magnets’ Overbelt Magnetic Separators are of countless applications amongst which we strived to mention the following:

Removal of tramp iron contaminant:

  • from coal, granite, limestone, basalt and other aggregates, to protect crushing and grinding machines.
  • at particular stages of cement production from moulding sand.

Cleaning of

  • chips, shavings and other shredded wood materials.
  • cullet, rubber, plastics and other materials coming from recycling.
  • alternative fuels and compost.

Recovery of ferrous scrap from municipal and industrial waste. Protection of sugar beet slicers.

APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS

An electromagnet is suspended over a conveyor belt as it rotationally moves, while the magnet attracts and lifts ferrous metals (like iron, steel, and nickel) away from the non-metallic materials.

The attracted metals are then collected and separated from the non-metallic materials.

BJ Magnets can manufacture different types of Elctro-overbelt magnets to best suit your needs.

  • Oil-cooled Electro Magnets which are reliable for working gaps of up to 1 000 mm and can provide ferrous separation for belt widths of up to 2 400 mm with.
  • Air cooled self-cleaning Electromagnetic Separators, which will be installed with drive motor, roller, scraper of unloading iron, belt of unloading iron. The equipment automatically cleans iron when the belt absorbs ferromagnetic material, at which occasion the trapped iron are thrown into the metal collector outside the separator during the work process, while achieving the purpose of automatic cleaning iron.

The BJ Magnets Overbelt Magnetic Separators can be designed and manufactured featuring:

  • Electromagnets or permanent magnets
  • “Cross-belt” or “in-line” arrangement
  • Manual or self-cleaning

BJ Magnets’ Overbelt Magnetic Separators can be used in a range of industries including:

  • Food (processing & Packaging), -Coal & Aggregates,
  • Mining & Minerals processing, -Metal Working,
  • Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals -Plastics & Rubber
  • Oil & Gaz -Recycle etc…

Our Electromagnets have several key features amongst which:

  • Magnetic circuit design using computer simulation, large magnetic penetration depth, strong suction.
  •  Adopt axial fan forced air cooling, a special duct design, large wind, high pressure, excitation coil cools quickly, low temperature, magnetic field fluctuations small.
  • Automatic clean iron, easy maintenance, driving drum using drum-shaped structure, with a belt correction function, dustproof housings. low mechanical failure rate.

Our Overbelt magnets can vary depending on the application target, however following are some common specifications as supplied to some of our previous clients:

  1.  Magnetic Field Strength: 1,000-10,000 gauss (100-1,000 mT)
  2. Belt Width: 12-96 inches (300-2,400 mm)
  3. Lift Height: 12-60 inches (300-1,500 mm)
  4. Magnet Width: 12-120 inches (300-3,000 mm)
  5. Depth of Magnetic Field: 12-36 inches (300-900 mm)
  6. Conveyor Speed: 100-1,000 feet per minute (0.5-5 meters per second).
  7. Power Supply: 230/460V, 50/60Hz, 1-10 kW

  12. Mounting Options: Suspension, side-mount, or built-in
  13. Accessories: Optional features like belt cleaners, vibrators, or metal detectors.

These following specifications are benefits that make electromagnets very versatile and widely used in various industries, including manufacturing, recycling, and material handling, just to name a few.

  1. Magnetic Field: Electromagnets produce a magnetic field when an electric current flows through a coil of wire, allowing them to attract and manipulate ferrous metals.
  2. Reversible: The magnetic field can be turned on and off by controlling the electric current, making electromagnets reversible.
  3. Adjustable Strength: The magnetic field’s strength can be adjusted by varying the electric current or the number of turns in the coil.
  4. Remote Control: Electromagnets can be operated remotely using electrical controls, making them convenient for automated systems.
  5. High Holding Force: Electromagnets can exert a strong holding force on ferrous metals, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications.
  6. Low Power Consumption: Electromagnets typically consume low power, especially when compared to permanent magnets.
  7. Flexibility: Electromagnets can be designed in various shapes and sizes to fit specific applications.
  8. Durability: Electromagnets have a long lifespan and require minimal maintenance.
  9. Instant On/Off: The magnetic field is instantly activated or deactivated when the current is turned on or off.
  10. Safety: Electromagnets can be designed with safety features like thermal overload protection and electrical isolation.
